And I don't think that UK passport holders are necessarily better than Bulgarians - myself included. And that taking away this right is not particuarly fair - especially when this right is now being given to people who have no British ancestry. And that the UK has much more in common with the Commonwealth than with the EU. And there are great complaints also about the 'brain drain' where educated UK citizens are fleeing to greener pastures - wherever they may be.An Englishman goes abroad to work as a missionary, teacher, engineer - in colonies of the former British Empire. Citizens of Paraguay for example, do not have the rights in the UK that I am referring to. His thanks - grandchildren who must take on the citizenship of the country they are born in, with less right to UK citizenship than a Bulgarian.I knew this will happen. I choose to live in France, and am here by right, not as a foreign guest. I do not see why the grandchildren of a Brit. I do think, though, that the Commonwealth will have been better off if the UK had concentrated on it, rather than the EU. I really don't care what colour the grandparent in question is.Report this commentObediahThat troublesome M26 Feb 2008 18:33thanks for clearing that up, I do agree with you but I just needed to be certian where you were going with it.Report this commentI . I too had a UK mother - which meant nothing as far as the UK govt was concerned. I was educated in England, and lived there for more than 20 years - as a resident alien! At one time, I will have cared deeply about this slight, from my ancestral homeland. I was just trying to pick a country which has no cultural or linguistic links to the UK, which belongs to the EU.Report this commentwellhouse2126 Feb 2008 21:04which belongs to the EU... If the said person who went abroad was a UK citizen (born and bred) but of Asian orAfrican descent will you offer them the same sympathy. My only UK rights came through my UK born grandfather.Report this commentThat troublsome MObediah26 Feb 2008 19:38Glad to clear it up. No connection at all between Bulgaria and my passport. Report this commentBaaapObediah26 Feb 2008 18:04Wrong - the colour will make no difference to me. So I can not have chosen such a country. Thought of saying Poland instead - but I think they have got a hard enough rap recently.
