About 3 years ago we bought an old house in the center of Tryavna, we employed a local architect who is in the process of completing the rennovation works. As a psychology graduate I hope I'll be up to the job! As there are so many English living, say near the coast, are there schools available or the children. Financially we will be secure, however leaving family and friends will be hard. My husband and son are flying out next weekend to see the house again and to choose the furniture etc. My husband is a former footie player so he is v. The low cost of living, clean air, wonderful scenery, rich in culture and friendly people, little crime etc. There is no need to do so - only if they weresolely Bulgarians."I do know that homeschooling is illegal for Bulgarians unless the children have certain dissabilities, so there won't be many other homeschoolers to band with. This is mainly because we are all Americans (though my husband is also a citizen of Bulgaria and my boys are automatically dual citizens) and therefore left alone in this area. We had planned to rent it out for part of the Summer and use it for our own holidays too. However, over the past year or so, we've spent hours and hours discussing how we don't want to bring the children up in London. We have never "registered" our children with any school. We will hire a private tutor for Bulgarian and I.T. We've absolutely loved what we've seen of Bulgaria so far, (Tryavna, Arbanasi, Veliko Turnovo, Etar, Koprivshtitsa, Elena, Varna). Without that it can be very challenging we think. Wondered if there are any little expat communities in BG thinking of home schooling their kids together in a small group?
