Hackney has a large number of Turkish residents who are British citizens, some of whom may not know that they are eligible to vote on 1 May. If you are a Turkish, citizen living in Hackney, and are not on the electoral register by 16 April, you won’t be able to vote for who you want to be Mayor of London, and for the London Assembly. London has the worst rate for voter registration of anywhere in the UK, with almost one in five residents missing from the register in some parts of the capital. The London Assembly examines and questions the Mayor’s plans and decisions and also investigates issues that are important to Londoners. The Mayor of London puts together plans and makes decisions on a number of different London-wide issues including transport, policing, fire and safety, housing, the environment, economic development, arts and culture.
